Sewing, again

It's been a long time, for sewing as for writing here. I missed both.
Sewing is so many things, all very positive; relaxing, creating sharing.
Blogging too, is so warm and nice, the connection that we get from reading about other people (mostly moms) lives, struggles and triumphs, and then commenting, feeling identified or cheering up them, or just learning amazing or practical things, is very different from what I feel I get on Instagram or Facebook. Here it all feels slower, kinder.

I wrote before about the group of moms and babies that I teach, music and English. Two weeks ago, they requested a sewing workshop. I have done this before, but haven't for a few years. One of the main ideas was to make menstrual pads out of the discarded cloth diapers of their babies, certainly a very Earth-friendly idea.

The result was very good and we had a great time.

Then, yesterday, I wanted to go out to get vegetables but I didn't wanted to bring a purse. I have entered a phase of my life were I don't want to carry purses, but the badly or non existent pockets on women's jeans is making it difficult, I have been meaning to do something about it but couldn't find the time, finally, yesterday I made some time.

I'm happy with the result, even when there is room to improve on the somehow improvised pattern, I was afraid that I was going to look like a clown, but I don't feel like that (even if I do look like one) and I loved the little patches I added. I plan to improve or add pockets in all my pants, it's amazing, and feminist, I think.

Happy sewing, a shop update

I'm so happy because I have been sewing a lot lately.

Unfortunately some of that sewing happened while taking care of my son who got sick with a throat infection that hasn't got away yet, but he is much better now, and I'm grateful for that.

I used my technique of rubber stamps on fabric to make some cuties, like the bike bonnet and the snowflake dress, I love tho use cute buttons too.

Mario Bros related crafts

 I do not care about for video games, not even nostalgia ones. I didn't like them when I was a teenager, and I like them even less as a mom.

But when my friend V called me asking ideas for his boyfriend birthday gifts I made a quick search and sent her some links, within a few hours she was so excited that asked me for lessons, so she could make all that she intend and could also learn how to use the sewing machine.
 

I accepted and we spent two days working on it, a bookmark, a cushion and a god strap, I mus say that it all came very nicely, and even I got excited and decided to use the the eraser stamps that I had engrave to make a tote to put all the gifts together.

This is the result.

Geranium dress

Last night I wanted to make something special for a baby.

We had guests for breakfast, a couple who took the prenatal class with me.

 
They came to introduce their baby. a lovely girl.

So I decided to try this pattern, and then to add diaper cover, booties and then a bonnet too.

I love the result, and I want to make so many more!

Sewing a lot, again

I have been working on some things for our home, like simple pillows but with beautiful fabric, I think pillows make a home cozy, even if you don't have couches.

Last Saturday we had visitors for breakfast, and so I took this chance to make place mats and napkins that I have been planning for a few weeks.

I end up making a bread basket with the same fabric, I tried to imitate a tree trunk, I love to make thing that remind of forest, trees and nature.

Also I'm still working on the puppets for the birthday of a little boy, they are giving one puppet to each kid, I'm hand sewing the eyes, and that's delaying me.

The night I made the napkins I also cut some pillows I have to make for an order, and I end up with a few stripes of fabric of the same width, and I decided to try my hand at a log cabin patch, not really knowing very well how to, but it came up nice in the end, I think, I added son corners to make it more pretty, I always get very worry about how to combine colors right on a quilt, and that even stops me from doing it.

I haven't made the pillow for this one yet, I made all my pillows because I like to use cotton fabric and I think all pillows that sale on stores are expensive.
