I have been so busy. We are so delay on homeschooling work, but it's just that with my kid learning three musical instruments plus theater and chess classes, and my work at the shop, we are kind of full. But instead of freaking out I'll just try to relax, and let things flow.

In the middle of all of this I have only had time to knit some small blankets for my kid's stuffed animals. This one is supposed to be a tree.

My very little reading is the first number of the National Geographic History Encyclopedia that is at the magazine stands every two weeks and we are collecting. I get distracted and I have to re read, but I really want to build some knowledge about history, and the pictures are amazing.

We have been watching Downton Abey and so I got this recipe book, which is great, even when I can't eat most of what is there for the gluten and dairy, but it's full historic details that I love to read.

So, my kid's birthday is this Sunday, and I'm oh so far from done with all the crafting, but I keep making progress. Of course time to read is not on the picture right now, nor knitting, but I did finish the shawl I talked about last week, just that I don't have foamy block to block it. I do love it, I hope my gran would like it, but for me I would make the large size, this one is medium.

Last night I worked on the mini bow and arrows pouches, and the swords, axes and hammers, all in felt, so kids could not hurt them selves. I made the blade on the swords one side grey and the other side blue, so they can play turning them when the orcs are near.

I also started to place things on the wall, the elvish crowns on Rivendel, the Dwarf Beards, etc. I still have to find a place to hang the floral crowns and the leaf hair pins that I think are kind of hobbit style.

And made the cardboard shields so the kid can decorate them, these are pretty easy and you can reuse any box. I add little shield photos so they can get ideas.

It's been crazy, but I'm pulling it, I'm still have to make the capes (I already made the design, but I think it needs some improve) and the messenger bags to go, did you saw the Smaug Piñata?, I love it.

I don't think that I have mention, but my formal education is as an actress, I did Dramatic literature and theater career at UNAM, the best public University in Mexico. But I didn't finished, I'm missing a class and my thesis, I have made efforts for finishing before, but not very good ones, this time I do intend to first approved my class and then proceed with a project to them make a report that will be valid as thesis.

I'm still unsure about if making a radio show for kids or a some little plays for toddlers based in that book above and maybe John Jolt's books.

Also I got this nice manual to help me prepare my birth classes, not sure that I can recommend any of these, unless you are interested on the subjects.

On the knitting front I almost done with this sock, is taking me forever right? Love the yarn.

We saw this documentary the other day and we got interested on Mary Poppins, so we are reading it now, I had no idea that P.L. Travers had such an interesting life.

Recently I read in some blog I don't remember something that a parent said,  it was something like: Those first weeks of homeschooling, when you don't sleep planning lessons and stay up late reading.

 By the time my kid still had a few days left from school and I thought that this would never happen to me, I was just wishing for rest and sleep, after all the horrible rush that schooling means, but guess what, he was right.

I haven't went to bed early almost any night since we started, and I'm so excited, reading and studying and planning activities and so on. Plus I'm starting to give English classes to kids this week, and I'm getting ready to that too. And all of this means a lot reading, and it's a shame that the updated App of Kindle Reader is not working well in tablets, so I'm force to do all my reading on screen these days.

I'm still on the socks that are by order for a 10 year old boy. but I made some progress here and there, This week has been very busy on rehearsals and violin classes, since my kid has a recital tomorrow, we are very excited, it's his first time as a soloist.

I've been knitting socks by order, someone asked me to knit socks for her kids, so  I'm starting the second pair and reading John Holt because we are back on the homeschooling life (such a bless).

 
Also I was creating a pair of gloves specially for when I took my kid to school in mornings by bike, but since I 'm no taking him anymore and the cold seams to have ended here in Mexico City I think I'll finish them but I will not use them until next fall.

I wanted to share the eggs I made them with this pattern, also a bunny family that came out late but is very loved. Here my notes and pattern.

I'm also knitting the Melker Cardigan for my son. I finished reading Your Five Year Old very useful as the whole series of books. I also found this reading useful for mom's of boys.
I'm reading now Traditional foods are your best medicine that I will recommend very much.

I'm also knitting a diaper cover in this delicious bamboo yarn.

 I finished the tangerine-orange sweater, I loved the pattern, very easy to follow and adapt to the particular size. my notes here.

Now I started the Saartje's Bootees, that I have always wanted to knit.

I have been strugling a little with my son, so I picked up Your Five Years Old, which has been enlighteing.

I'm amazed on how much knitting I'm doing this days. I continue to knit for my baby's friend who will be born on September or something like that. I wish I have had knit this much for my own son, but five years ago I didn't knew almost anything about knitting. But I think he start that interest for me, I got my first knitting book when I was pregnant and went to a circus festival in San Miguel Allende

The first thing I knitted was a sweater for my baby.

Now I'm working on this sweater, inspired by our orange-mandarin breakfast juices. Love the yarn, so soft, is Premier Yarns Merit.

This week I'm not reading at all, since my father is moving in, so I have a lot of organizing to do.

This week has been crazy, so reading was not possible but I did finish One Hundred Years of Solitude last week.

I'm almost done with the pirate sweater, it's kind of small, it fits him but it wont last to long, he is so happy.

I'm still on the Pirate Sweater for my son, as he called it. It was much more easy than I thought but I did have to make adjustments because my yarn is thinner, I will update details here soon.

I'm still on One hundred years too, and happily surprised of how many English speakers have reed it, it's such a great book, I'm in the part of 17 Aurelianos already.

Last night I watch Le Concert, it was great, I even watched over imediatly, as I did with Garden State.

 What have you been working on?

My son is in need of a warm sweater for winter, so I let him pick a pattern, he liked this one for the pirate related thing with the skull, I like it because it has a hoodie, it's a free pattern, and it seams like is wide and can last a year, or at least I'm hoping that, this is the larger project I have ever made, I don't have black wool yarn so I will be using brown instead, details here.

I'm rereading One hundred years of solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, I recommend it very much, it's incredible.

This week I made a little hat for a baby and I end up publishing my first Ravelry pattern, I'm so excited, it's Veikko's Hat, you can find it here. It's a newborn gnomy hat, maybe too simple for all you experienced knitters, but an easy fast gift for the holidays or baby to born, hope you like it.

I'm still reading I curse the river of time, by Per Petterson and loving it.

I didn't knit a lot this week, I just finished the baby socks and slippers for my son, and I'm reading I curse the rive of time and I like it so far.

This week I'm still on the sleepers for my son, from last week, and a pair of baby sock for a surprise gift.

The yarn on the sleepers it's quite old, my mom gave it to me about 3 years ago, but I remember how it was always in her stash, so I showed to her and we calculated it's about 20 years old. And the good news is that is not acrylic, but wool, she made a little burning test (I didn't knew about this), and showed me how it will became ashes and not a hard plastic thing and there is also the smell of burned hair.

In the reading front there has been a lot of Calvert manuals being our first year and all the system very new for me, so I'm trying to figure it out, but today we had our fist lesson and we loved it, more on that tomorrow.

This week I was active on knitting but not in the reading front after have finished Freedom, which I loved, but still can't tell exactly why.

I made a pair of sock and mittens with an Alpaca skein I have had for about 3 years, but I don't have the label any more, so I  don't know how much alpaca is on it and if there is any other fiber, but the textures is great and I love the color too. And is so cute to make little things, I hope to post the pattern, which is my own, some day soon.

I had also some old yarn my mom's gave me, it's clearly acrylic, but still, my son needed some sleepers and I already had the soles from 2 years ago, I'm lucky they still fit him, and have a little space to grow into, he loved it, now I just need to make the pair. He loved them, and I feel so good to be able to do something for him among all the work.
